Daily Reflection

Today Victor came back from Samoa! We learnt about recycling and keeping our planet safe. We now know that we need to make sure we recycle a lot more! It is also Miss Yeoman's last day for the week. She is going to have surgery to fix her sore knee tomorrow. She said she will try to come in later in the week to see us and do some maths with us. We will be having a reliever called Mrs. Allan.

Daily Reflection

Today was the first day back after the holidays. YAY Miss Yeoman is back in our class!! Miss Yeoman told us about our new art project Trash to Fash. We worked in groups to think of themes we can have for our Trash to Fash costume. We also went on a treasure hunt. We are all excited because the All Blacks won the Rugby World Cup on Sunday!

Welcome back!!

Wow - didn't the holidays just fly by! It is great to hear that all of the Room 5 children had an incredible holiday and are excited to be back at school. I am definitely excited to be back! We have a very busy short term this term. We are on the final stretch of the school year, so there will be a lot of testing and report writing being done this term. Alongside that, there are many more things to look out for... - The Western Springs syndicate trip happening this Thursday. Please make sure you sign your child's permission slip and send that and $2 to the school office by Wednesday! - Trash to Fash: each class will be making a costume out of recycled materials. There will be a fashion show in week 5. Please do not send any recycled materials to Room 5 as the children will only be using materials specific to the costume they choose to design. - Inquiry this term is 'Sustainability'. We will be diving deep into the plant life, planting our own seeds, helping and watching them grow into a plant. Watch this space for photos! Please don't hesitate to come and have a look at all the exciting things we have been doing!!

Daily Reflection

Today it was Mr Kelly's birthday!! The whole syndicate sang happy birthday to him! We found different cities in New Zealand on different types of maps and wrote them on a blank map of New Zealand. It was fun!!

Term 3!

Wow - we're already over halfway through term 3!! What a jam packed term it has been!! We've had the 3-way conferencing, which was fantastic! We had Wacky Wednesday where we wore wacky clothes and even had a wacky day in the classroom! Check out some of the photos we took!
Constable Cam taught us how to keep safe when crossing the road and in the car, and the Year 3's, along with Toitoi Manawa syndicate visited the Marae at Lynfield College. Phew! What a term we've had so far! But that's not all!! This coming Thursday we've got a good old kiwi competition between the school houses throwing gumboots, and our traditional school cross country on Friday. This term we have been focusing on using our self-control. The classroom is now full of children who respect each other, who are patient, and always try to do the right thing at the right time. We are trying to use our self-control at home as well as at school, so it would be fabulous if you could remind us to use it at home!! Every afternoon before the bell rings we all sit together and write a class reflection about our day. These reflections used to go up on our wall, however the classroom now hasn't got much space left on the walls, as we have filled them with all our wonderful work! So we will now be posting them on our blog everyday and you can see what our day has been like too!

Lights...Camera...ACTION!!

At the moment Room 5 is buzzing with excitement as we film our very own movie. We have come a long way since the start of the term! We brainstormed and brainstormed some more to create a thrilling script that will capture the audiences attention! Our short movie is based on Life at Marshall Laing. We go exploring and reveal what we see! Make sure you keep the 13th of July free to join us at the movies to view the finished product of The Haunted School!

If you have any pirate costumes, could we please borrow them for the week! I promise you will get them back!!

Exploring the Brain!

We had so much fun last term exploring sheep brains! We were able to find the four lobes, the cerebellum and many other parts of the brain.

Here are a few comments from the children about what they observed on the day...

"It was really squishy, like jelly! Vicka

"It was so cool seeing a real cerebellum! Hazim

"It smelt gross!" Ujjawal

Reading Books.

We are having a massive sort out of all the reading books in the school. There will be no reading books sent home until next term. The children will be taking their poetry books home each day until the end of the term. Please read through the poems with your child and write in their reading log "Poetry book" as their reading book for the night. If you have other books at home your child could read, or a newspaper, encourage them to read those to you!
Thank you so much for your cooperation :)

We are a 'brainy' class!

"The five senses are in our lobes, in our lobes.
The five senses are in our lobes, in our lobes.
Eyes, ears, mouth and touch and nose...
These are all found in our lobes, in our lobes!"

If you haven't heard this song at home yet, ask your child to enlighten you with their knowledge of the brain through this delightful melody!

We are all so excited to learn about our brain and how we learn! We are engaging our frontal lobes, where our thinking is done, with eagerness as we dive deep into inquiring about our masterminds!

Keep watching this space as we will be posting amazing brain tips for you apply!

Green Day

Green day has come and gone. We are now taking care of our scrumptious vegetables, waiting with excitement for them to grow into excellent brain food!
We are all looking forward to the day when we can pick our broccoli and spinach and create a delicious snack food out of them!
